Dehydration Treatment

Dehydration Treatment

Dehydrated skin is not a skin type- it is a condition of the skin. It doesn't discriminate between dry, oily or combination skin and can be aggravated by topical skin care as much as lifestyle (binge drinking, smoking or environment for instance).

It's hard to describe dehydrated skin, since it can present itself differently in many people. It's generally skin that appears lackluster and dull, sallow or "tired," and when pulled taut, it almost seems to wrinkle. If you press your finger upwards on your cheek and if you can see horizontal little lines more than likely your skin is dehydrated. It generally soaks up moisturiser yet can look oily in spots and feels dry as a bone in others.

The first thing to consider is moisture content. Do you drink enough water? You should be drinking 8 glasses a day.

How much moisture is around your skin and what is on your skin to drink that moisture up (and hold it to the skin itself). For people in drier environments or simply those of us prone to dry or dehydrated skin, I highly recommend investing in a warm mist humidifier as it can makes a noticeable difference in how plump your skin remains throughout the day and night.

You also want to be paying attention to what kind of ingredients are holding moisture to your skin and how you are using them. I'm talking humectants here- such as Hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally derived ingredient that can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water. It is very light, thin and usually is not sticky. It is most commonly found in serums, but is also becoming more widely used in creams and lotions. It is best applied to damp skin and if you're using it as a serum, follow it with a rich moisturiser.

Your mileage may vary but usually you will get 8-16 weeks using daily from a 30ml bottle. Have a look at our Skin Define 100% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum. At $39.95 it is great value for a pure hyaluronic acid serum.

If you're not using any of these ingredients but feel your skin is dehydrated, make sure you're not using a cleanser that strips the skin and makes it feel dry and tight after cleansing (prior to applying your moisturiser). Your skin should never feel this way after cleansing, it is a sign of a damaged skin barrier.

Make sure you are getting your daily dose of Omega 3/6/9- we talk about it a lot but cant stress enough the importance of it! Omega supplements daily are a great alternative if you don’t get the intake required from other sources.

Of course, then there is the hydrating peels and masks such as Lactic, Glycolic, Glycerin and Hydrating Masks that can plump and assist a dehydrated skin treatment.

If you have tried all the above and are still suffering with dehydration and cant find a dehydration treatment to fix it may be worth a visit to your GP to have your hormones checked and then there is always Skin Booster- which injects Hyaluronic deep into the skin!

Whilst Restylane fillers smooth away wrinkles and add volume to facial features, Restylane Skinboosters works to improve the skin's overall quality by boosting hydration levels deep inside the skin and increasing its smoothness, elasticity and firmness- it really is one of the quickest dehydration treatment!

Hyaluronic acid is one of the main components of the skin that helps give it a radiant look.  As we age the skin's ability to produce hyaluronic acid decreases and can result in drier and thinner skin with a dull complexion. Other factors, including diet and over exposure to the sun may also contribute to dry skin lacking a youthful complexion.  Restylane Skinboosters can be used by aesthetic healthcare practitioners as part of an aesthetic programme to help revitalise and hydrate the skin.

What can Restylane Skinboosters achieve?

The Restylane Skinbooster range is formulated to specifically provide deep skin hydration.  With two formulations (Restylane Vital and Restylane Vital Light), Restylane Skinboosters are suitable for all skin types to help increase hydration and skin quality.

Restylane Skinboosters are clinically proven for treatment of the face, neck, decollatage and hands.  Visible improvements to the skin can be seen after an initial course of treatments* resulting in healthy skin with a beautiful glow.

Whilst providing deep skin hydration, the Restylane Skinbooster range can also help improve the appearance of fine lines and imperfections such as acne scars.
